Leonard W. Hatton Classic 2023
In its 23rd year, the Hatton Classic began to honor Special Agent Leonard W. Hatton who lost his life on 9/11 when he entered one of the towers to help evacuate occupants. Lenny’s legacy continues as the Classic now supports the FBIAA Memorial College Fund. Since 1985, the Fund has provided support to children of fallen agents. Over 300 students have received support and over $13 million has been distributed. In the 2023-2024 school year, over $1 million in funds was awarded for 42 students in 38 different colleges and universities.
The FBI held a 9/11 ceremony in New York City on September 26, 2023 to honor agents for their courageous efforts on that day and for the months of investigation after the terrorist attack. FBI Director Wray commented “You who put your lives on hold…and on the line..to conduct one of the largest investigations in FBI history - and in the world.”
I have had the privilege of being a part of the Hatton Classic, first as a participant and now to help organize. Most important to me is the spirit and camaraderie of the day. We honor Lenny for his sacrifice and put our efforts forward to help other agent families who continue to be affected from 9/11 related illness.
Please join me in support of this worthy cause and if you can, join us on May 31.
Lest We Forget,
Patty Carroll
